I am excited to be a part of the National Networker team. As the Social Networking editor I will be bringing you ideas that can enhance your networking events. If you are aware of really cool networking outings near you, please drop me a line to see them featured here.

More and more people are realizing the importance of having solid business relationships. While lots of networking groups have been around for years, many are starting to look at the way they interact. Can your social network help you get business? Better yet, can your business network help you be more social?

As a Detroiter, I would like to highlight some of the great things that Networking groups in this area are doing.

Local Business Network

Local Business Network, www.locbusnet.com. In addition to having bi-monthly meetings the one thing that separates them is their "Quarterly Mixer". Four times a year they invite members from their 40+ chapters to their own private trade show. It's a great place to see members set up booths and display their wares. The day is highly interactive with break out sessions, good food and in the summer a wonderful golf outing.

Sunrise Networking Group

Next up, Sunrise Networking Group, www.sunrisenetworkinggroup.com. What SNG does better than others is focuses on getting people to play together. They have a weekly golf league where members get together and Tee off. They also have a monthly cocktail gathering. This gathering involves a lot more than cocktails. Sometimes it is at a comedy club, occasionally at a concert and in July they will be hosting their "blues cruise".

MotorCityConnect.com

Finally ... a group that is near and dear to my heart, www.motorcityconnect.com

On May 31, Motorcityconnect.com joined www.blightbusters.org to remove a crackhouse from Detroit's Northwest side.

This was billed as an opportunity to bring your business cards, your dancing work boots and the opportunity to spread positive JUJU through the great city of Detroit. Networking will happen every bit as much as improving the community will. And you know what, it did. It was fun to watch people exchange business cards and sledgehammers. Even though there were only 12 people left at the end of the eight hour shift, we all shared in a wonderful experience.

There are so many great events going on and I need your help to stay on top of them! Click here to e-mail and share your story.
